Why Do Some Students Go Back to School on August 3rd, While Others Don't Go Back Until After Labor Day?

If you are a working parent without a partner who stays at home, summertime might be one of the most stressful times of the year for you. You have to spend an arm and a leg to keep your kid in a summer camp that mirrors your working schedule, or you have to rely on the kindness of family members, who could stop their help without much notice. For you, a quick summer vacation would be a godsend, but that's not how all parents feel. 

Parents who have their childcare needs easily covered might have a different mentality about summer vacation. They remember it fondly from their own childhood and want their kids to fully recover from the school year with as much leisure time as they need. After all, they likely won't get a summer vacation when they're an adult, so why not enjoy it while they can!

When I was a kid, the last month of summer vacation usually made me feel pretty listless. I remember one August where I stayed home the entire month and did nothing more than play Yahtzee on my computer. I guess that severe lack of a schedule helped me get excited about the school year and the structure it brought, because I never dreaded going back to school the way that some kids did. 

Even though I might have been okay without the August of my summer breaks, some people are totally against going back to school in early August. One parent took to the internet to share their frustration with their kid's school going back to school today, instead of a month from now.
